Cheap vs expensive: How much should you pay for a motorcycle helmet?

We recommend that you make an intensive test ride with the helmet before purchase. The result, helmets that are so perfect, the company offers ridiculously long warranty periods lasting 5 to 7 years! And as if that’s not enough, Shoei goes the extra mile to replace your crashed helmets at a discount, demonstrating just how much they care for their customers.

The first is a thinner neck strap, along with a smaller micro-ratchet fastener. Both will play a part in making the helmet more comfortable to ride in. It is by weaving strands of steel into the strap to increase its strength that Shoei has been able to meet the standard for tensile strength with a thinner strap.

Handcrafting is what sets top brands like Shoei, Arai, and AGV helmets apart from the cheaper run-of-the-mill brands. There is a lot more attention to detail, and if any manufacturing errors are spotted, thousands of lids are removed from the production line. That, and 65 years of experience as of 2024, guarantees the longevity of the rider and helmet backed by the 5-year warranty and crash replacement policy. I don’t care, because there’s something about the shell that’s oh-so-slightly reminiscent of helmets from the 1980s. It’s not just the vents that are robust – that’s a word that can be applied to the whole of this helmet.

Finally, for those who care, the GT Air 3 comes in three shell sizes. Out of interest, XS and S share the same eps, meaning that the only difference between them is the changeable cheekpads and headliners. In fact, it is the same unit that is used for the Neotec 3. On the Neotec, Shoei made extravagant claims about how the way the comms. But they have made no such claims about the same system, and the way it fits into the new GT-Air 3, so we assume it has not reduced noise. The new standard places much greater demands on a helmet’s shell to resist cracking, and on its ability to absorb the energy of an impact.

Please do not use Nitro-based colors and make sure that no paint comes into the interior of your helmet. During painting, all ventilation and visor openings should be taped off or, if possible, be temporarily removed because the very sensitive material polycarbonate is used. Where can I get information about prices or about the availability of Shoei products? If you require information about the availability or the prices of Shoei helmets or spare parts please contact our importer in your country. You will find the addresses of all importers on this website - super fast reply,.Please also ask your local dealer.

(It takes two, fully-trained people to remove a full-face helmet, and sometimes there's only one person on the scene). Now the Shoei JO helmet has been around for quite a few years. As customers to the shop will know we have always tried to persuade people not to buy one, but the truth is that the JO has long been the best open-face helmet on the market.

It also fits snugly to your face without unpleasant pressure, and is malleable enough to slide the arms of glasses and sunglasses easily through to your ears. I wear glasses with thin wire arms under most helmets, but the Shoei allows glasses with solid plastic arms to be worn quite comfortably. When other helmets fall apart, a Shoei just wears down or fades. When other helmets start pressing into my forehead or the tips of my ears after a couple of hours of riding, a Shoei feels as it did in the first five minutes. And when other helmets have ill-fitting visors or fiddly straps or ineffective ventilation, a Shoei just gets the job done. There are perhaps only two other changes that are worthy of note.

Yet, there is more to the aggressive styling of the Bell Moto-10 MIPS than meets the eye. It allows thermal exchange airflow, which draws heat and moisture away from your head as you ride. Adding to the luxury are the NMR bumpers that increase cushioning, impact mitigation, stability, comfort, and aerodynamics of the helmet. The AGV K6 is one of my favorite helmets; I own three of them. But the AGV K6 S distinguishes itself with its aerodynamic carbon fiber and aramid (Kevlar) shell, expertly balancing robust strength and lightweight design.

I particularly like the hardness of the shell, which feels tougher than the shells of other helmets I’ve used. Priced at $399 and made in Japan (No. 23 on the Democracy Index), the RF-SR is slotted as a replacement to the popular Qwest model. To my eye it’s subtly better looking than its predecessor. Shoei says it has been streamlined, its vents redesigned, and its face shield given a tighter seal. Honestly, I expected the Shoei to be a little quieter.

The Shoei X-SPR Pro, much like the class-defining Schuberth C3 and C4 Pro, have integrated spoiler and vortex generators to break up the air and reduce viscous drag, lift, and wind noise. Shoei is right up there with Arai and AGV when it comes to aerodynamic performance for reduced drag and lift. And as if that’s not enough, they rival the German Schuberth for the world’s quietest helmets.
